Great Book

good stuff

I bought this book on amazon.com last year and was amazed I hadn’t come across it sooner. I buy used books on animation, comics, story structure etc… on amazon.com all the time, but 90% of them are painful to read. This book breaks down every type of joke you will ever hear or see into formulas and categories. It really hits on story structure quite well and simplifies that whole process.

Highly recommend this book.

Adage article

Here’s a good article in Adage about youtube content creation/ creators

http://adage.com/digital/article?article_id=137140

My top three favorite online cartoons/ “bite sized” entertainment youtube things:

1. Supernews: If you haven’t watched this. Go now, watch. Sometimes I watch this and get pissed off that they are stealing all of the good ideas in the world.

2. Homestarrunner: I don’t really watch this anymore, but I often stop back to their site to see if they are still pulling it off. It’s a great example of pulling in traffic with minimal animation, design and mediocre audio. The idea is so crazy it is hypnotizing. Strongbad is pretty funny too

3. Happy Tree Friends: These are pretty good. Cuddly creatures end up getting ripped to shreds in every episode.

Honorable mention: Romp.com (early 2000’s) - This needs to make a comeback

Zach Galifianakis Interview

Question: What’s the first movie you have ever seen?

Zach Galifianakis: (thinking long and hard) (thinking again - getting more serious) Toy Story.

My new favorite program

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Up until now, Photoshop has been my go to program for inking, doodling, and drawing. That has all changed after finally trying out Sketchbook Pro. Like everything else, including getting rid of my fanny pack, I am 10-15 years behind the curve. I’m ashamed of myself for not trying this program sooner. For drawing digitally, it feels more natural than any program I have come across. Go download the trial version.
